Day 40 on the Southern Tier Route. I awoke at 6:30 A.M. even though I didn't need to get up so early,  because I had only 27 miles to bike today. After packing my gear, I ate breakfast at the motel then started riding at 8. The first quarter mile went directly into the sun over a bridge over the St. John's River.

Day 39 on the Southern Tier Route

Day 39 on the Southern Tier Route. A daylong tail wind. Thankfully, last night didn't turn out to be as cold as I expected. I awoke at 6:30, ate breakfast of granola and chocolate milk, packed up and biked a quarter mile to a convenience store.

Day 38 on the Southern Tier Route

Day 38 on the Southern Tier Route. A late start. I mistakenly set my alarm for 7:30 A.M. instead of 6:30 A.M. I arose at 7:30 A.M., packed up, and rode into town for breakfast. The 'big boy' plate with eggs, hash browns, toast, and biscuits and gravy filled me up.

Day 37 on the Southern Tier Route. Cold then warm. It was cold last night with a low of 51 degrees. My one-season down quilt was barely warm enough to keep from shivering, even with all my clothes on. I started biking at 7:00 A.M.

Day 36 on the Southern Tier Route

Day 36 on the Southern Tier Route. Another great day. Up at 6:30 A.M. and on the road at 7. After breakfast at a nearby Waffle House, I headed east on US Hwy 90 for 29 miles to De Funiak Springs. The shoulder of US 90 continued wide and smooth as I passed by live oak forest, pine plantations, grassy pastures, lots of rural homes, and a few streams and low spots with cypress trees.
