Tall buildings in Buffalo loomed across the river. The current in the river ripped along. We arrived in Fort Erie, Ontario where we rode 2 miles to buy groceries. That done, we rode north for 9 miles on Niagara Parkway, mostly forsaking the parallel and bumpy Niagara Recreation Trail.

We followed the Adventure Cycling Association route all day starting with 12 miles on CR 24 (the Dexter Line) to Dexter and Port Bruce- a modest settlement- then 12 miles on CR 42 (the Nova Scotia Line) to Port Burnell where we enjoyed breakfast at Aunt Tilly’s. We continued east on the Glen Erie Line and CR 42(Lakeshore Drive) for 22 miles to Port Rowan, a more lively town with a small harbor (see photo).

In Marine City, the highway passed by stately Victorian mansions, overlooking the St. Clair River (see photo). In 5 more miles, we ate lunch at Algonac State Park, under a huge catalpa tree. Jet skis roared along the river, while anglers tested the waters for walleyes, evidently without success. After this pleasant interlude, we biked a few more miles south, to the Algonac Ferry. Water from the river flooded parts of the vehicle ramp to the ferry. In 10 minutes the ferry arrived.
