Afterword - The Continental Divide Trail. CDT is advertised as a brutal, potentially lonely experience. Much of the trail isn’t a trail but a route on roads or paths beat out by the feet of hikers. My feet didn’t like hiking on gravel and paved roads.

Day 55 - Leaving the Continental Divide Trail. I’ve been leaning toward leaving the trail. That would give my ankles and feet a chance to recover. More importantly, I would rather spend the next three months working on my book and building my speaking business than hiking.

Lots of alpine scenery. Surprisingly, I was chilly last night even though the temperature in my tent was only 30 degrees. I hiked 3.6 miles through lodgepole pine forest to Tennessee Pass.

Day 52 on the CDT - Two Long Climbs and Alpine Scenery. Two long climbs and alpine scenery. After a restful night (except for transient foot pains), I set forth at 6:15 gaining 900-ft of elevation climb on a good trail. After 2 miles of climbing through conifer forest, the trail more or less followed the land contour for 5 miles. I passed through lands that were part of the Leadville National Fish Hatchery.

Day 51 on the CDT - Aspen Forests. Aspen forests. The night didn’t seem that cold but my tent had ice on the inside when I awoke.
