Continental Divide Trail – Preparation Part 3

Trail Days in Silver City, New Mexico turned out to be delightful as expected. The presentations were engaging and useful. Last night’s slide show by Cam Hoban highlighted his 15-month bike of twelve long trails in the US. I also liked camping at the Silver City RV Park with other hikers. This morning, Hercules and I walked up the Walnut Canyon Road toward a trail head while picking up trash then got a hitch. A group of CDT folks went on a hike but I walked bask toward town on the road and filled two big black trash bags with litter. About noon I returned to the trail head and met the returning hikers. Rob drove Hercules and me back to town then fetched Axyl at the Visitor Center. We drove 42 miles to Lordsburg and the Econolodge. We thanked Rob for his kindness (see photo). We found other hikers in the lobby, some of them right off the trail (85 miles from the Mexican border). I checked my gear to make sure I hadn’t forgotten anything  critical. Ten of us will get on the shuttle to the border at 6:30 tomorrow morning. I’m ready to start hiking.
