Day 47 on the Appalachian Trail

Up early for breakfast. The attached photo shows the sleeping quarters of the Grace Lutheran Hiker Hostel. The church provides food for hikers. This morning, I ate Raisin Bran, milk, English muffins, ham, and a cup of coffee. After visiting with the other hikers, I packed up my gear and left the church at 9am (when the hostel closes for the day) and walked across the street to the public library. I read recent issues of the Washington Post and the New York Times and 90 pages of a recent novel by Anne Hillerman, daughter of the late novelist Tony Hillerman. The book features Navajo characters her father created. I walked 4 blocks to a Chinese buffet with 50 offerings. Then I walked 6 blocks to the Quality Inn to check in. That done, I walked to the bank to get some cash and the Kroger to resupply. On the way back to the motel to organize my food, I saw ominous thunderheads over the mountains to the east. My chores done, I watched a TV program about the virtues of eating fat and avoiding sugar and refined carbs. For dinner, Lightened Up and I walked to Jake’s for a burgers.  After dinner, I watched the Pittsburgh - San Jose Stanley Cup hockey game. Today's miles - 0. Total miles - 861.3.
