Day 4 on the Continental Divide Trail. The wind subsided overnight as a cold front moved through. After breakfast, I headed west through short shrubland then veered north. I lost the trail twice where it crossed fences. In such cases, I estimated the direction the trail went and hiked on looking for trail signs or footprints.

Day 3 on the Continental Divide Trail. The wind blew almost all night. But when I awoke all was calm. I ate granola and got a liter of water from the metal water tank. The morning’s hike ran thru desert shrubland, mostly along hillsides.

Day 2 on the Continental Divide Trail

Day 2 on the Continental Divide Trail. On the trail at 6:30 a.m. The first four miles of trail barely existed. Plus the brown wooden posts that were supposed to show the way were hard to see from a distance. I wandered a lot trying to find the posts. I fell while sliding down a slope and gouged my left palm.
