Day 20 on the Continental Divide Trail. Just before I went to bed, I lanced the big blister on my left heel. A torrent of slightly bloody fluid streamed from the hole into my bandana. Will the pressure relief help my heel tomorrow? Last night was cold. I barely stayed warm even with my long John’s and wind jacket.

Day 19 on the Continental Divide Trail. I slept well last night. At 6:30 am, I walked a quarter mile to US Hwy 60, crossed it and continued north on a county road. Walking was easy on the smooth road surface. By and by, I met Timber, a British hiker and cyclist. We walked together for most of the morning discussing matters of consequence.

Day 18 on the Continental Divide Trail. I had trouble falling asleep last night because I kept thinking about potential problems. Will my food and map box arrive tomorrow? Will my sore feet heal with a day off? Will the 76-mile road walk to Grants over four days hammer my feet? Will Riley be able to mail me the cold-weather sleeping bag to Cuba? Will I stay warm enough until then?
