Day 28 on the Southern Tier Route. The last day in Texas. Last night was cool, so much so that I wore my stocking cap and raincoat to bed. Up at 7:00 A.M. and on US Hwy 96 northbound looking for breakfast. In two miles I bought a pint of chocolate milk at a convenience store then rode 11 more miles to Buna.

Day 27 on the Southern Tier Route

Day 27 on the Southern Tier Route. After 10 hours of restful sleep, I left the motel at 7:30 A.M. and biked to the eastern edge of Cleveland for breakfast. Then I continued east on TX Hwy 105 for 23 miles to Moss Hill. Just before I got there, I saw my first bayou with cypress trees festooned with Spanish moss (see photo).

Day 26 on the Southern Tier Route

Day 26 on the Southern Tier Route. Cooler weather and flatter terrain. Last night a cold front moved in. For the first time in several weeks, I wasn't hot when I snuggled in my down quilt. At 7:30, I packed up, drank a quart of chocolate milk, thanked my hosts, and rode three blocks to a tiny taco stand. Two breakfast tacos disappeared quickly.
